The mayors of Albury and Wodonga have threatened to march on state parliaments if they fail to secure a meeting with the NSW and Victorian premiers to discuss the Border's hospital plight. or signup to continue reading Kevin Mack and Michael Gobel have formally requested an urgent meeting with Chris Minns and Jacinta Allan to push for a new hospital instead of the existing plan to upgrade Albury's medical hub with a new clinical services building. The appeal for the get-together emerged from a meeting on Monday, December 2, involving the mayors' councils and the shires of Alpine, Berrigan, Edward River, Federation, Greater Hume, Indigo, Mansfield, Towong and Snowy Valleys.
Cr Mack, who was , said it was frustrating to "beg our governments to do their job, provide us with a high-quality, first-class health system that caters for our two communities of 300,000 people." He was then asked what would happen if the premiers snubbed the mayors. "We'll march on parliament house in NSW and Victoria and we will make sure that they do hear us and I'm serious," Cr Mack said.
Cr Gobel said that step would be justified if Mr Minns and Ms Allan ignored the plea. "This issue is of such primary importance that I think that sort of action would be warranted," Cr Gobel said. "If we continue to have state governments that are ignoring our requests for information or responses or even to have a discussion on what is such a critical issue to the population here of 300,000 people, a march on parlia.
