COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) Two Columbia mayoral candidates and two people seeking the Fourth Ward City Council seat have submitted their petitions to run in the April 8 election. Tuesday was the first day candidates could submit their petitions to appear on the ballot.

14. Candidate election packets can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office. Three races will occur in April: Mayor, Ward 3 and Ward 4.

According to a Tuesday afternoon email from City Clerk Sheela Amin, the following people have filed their petition in the following races: Mayor Incumbent Barbara Buffaloe Tanya Heath Ward 4 Incumbent Nick Foster Ron Graves Blair Murphy had announced his intent to run for mayor earlier this month. All petitions need to be reviewed to determine if they are sufficient, Amin wrote. No one has filed for the Ward 3 seat or has announced a run.

Candidates for Ward 3 and Ward 4 must obtain at least 50 signatures from residents who reside in and are registered voters of that same ward, according to a previous release from the city. Candidates running for mayor must obtain at least 100 signatures from residents and registered voters of the City of Columbia, according to the same release..
