The main highway through Lahaina reopened earlier this month, raising concerns among residents about increased visitor traffic in the sensitive area.
Maui Mayor Richard Bissen has emphasized that Lahaina is still an active recovery zone and visitors should respect the community’s need for space and time to heal. Despite the challenges, the rest of Maui, including Kaanapali and other areas of West Maui, is open for business. Hotels, restaurants, and tour operators are welcoming visitors, and efforts are underway to support the community’s recovery.
