Five individuals were officially charged in actor Matthew Perry’s overdose death from acute effects of Ketamine in August 2024. Now, in a new development, one doctor related to the case has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to distribute Ketamine, as per AP. Identified Mark Chavez, the doctor reportedly entered a $50,000 plea deal after a court hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 2.
His sentencing will be done at a later date and it is suggested Chavez could face up to 10 years in prison. The doctor, who ran a ketamine clinic, allegedly sold the drug to Dr Salvador Plasencia, another accused in Matthew Perry’s death. Plasencia is accused of selling the drug to Perry’s assistant Kenneth Iwamasa.
Perry’s body was discovered at a Los Angeles apartment in October 2023, with initial reports indicating he passed away at 54 from an apparent drowning in a hot tub. First responders suggested Perry was unresponsive upon arrival and that no foul play was involved in the incident. It appeared as though the drowning was caused due to cardiac arrest until an official autopsy determined the real cause to be the acute effects of ketamine overdose.
