Mattel has introduced its first blind Barbie doll, created in collaboration with the American Foundation for the Blind. The doll features an authentic eye gaze, a cane and braille packaging, aiming to increase inclusivity and representation of visually impaired children. New York: US toymaker Mattel has launched its first-ever blind Barbie, making its range of dolls more inclusive.

With the new Barbie, Mattel aims to increase the representation of visually-impaired and low-vision children in society. Mattel worked with the American Foundation for the Blind to design the doll. It worked meticulously on details including the doll’s eyes and clothing to authentically represent people with blindness and low vision.



Blind Barbie doll A post shared by Barbie (@barbie) The blind Barbie doll holds a white and red cane with a marshmallow tip. The doll’s eye gaze is directed slightly upwards and outward to represent the gaze of blind individuals. The doll wears a pink satin T-shirt and a purple tulle skirt.

The top has loop fasteners on the back for easy dressing and the skirt has an elastic waistband. The packaging also has “Barbie” written in braille on it. This doll features an upward and outward eye gaze, sunglasses, and a cane with a marshmallow tip. Textured fabrics enhance the sensory experience, making fashion elements more accessible with easy-to-open Braille packaging and elbow articulation for comfortable cane use, facilitating accessibility to show that we are all Barbie.” Netizens loved the new Barbie doll.
