Wednesday, November 13, 2024 At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) underscored the tourism sector’s pivotal role in advancing climate action. During a panel discussion, MATTA President Nigel Wong introduced the MATTA Sustainable Tourism Initiative, a collaborative effort uniting key stakeholders to implement eco-centric and measurable sustainability practices within Malaysia ‘s tourism industry. MATTA Sustainable Tourism Initiative The initiative brings together organizations such as Climate Governance Malaysia, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), RHB, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) , and the Malaysian Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (MACEOS).

Its primary objectives include: This comprehensive approach aims to foster a greener tourism industry in Malaysia, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. Leveraging Eco-Tourism and Community Empowerment Dr. Jeetesh Kumar emphasized the importance of leveraging Malaysia’s rich eco-tourism assets as a means to promote sustainability.



By empowering local communities and integrating them into the tourism value chain, the industry can create economic opportunities while preserving natural resources.
