Love Is Blind: UK host Matt Willis feared wife Emma Willis was never going to trust him again after his last relapse. Busted bassist Matt and television star Emma have been married for over 16 years now. But during that time, the musician has battled addiction with alcohol and cannabis.

During a Q and A on his On The Mend podcast, Matt, 41, opened up about the guilt he felt during his last relapse. He has previously revealed he last relapsed in 2016, where he would snort 6g of cocaine a day. He told Emma, 48, to “get out while she still could”.

Emma though refused to leave, saying she wanted to “help” Matt and “believed” he could “help himself”. On his podcast, Matt explained he got over the guilt of relapse by “putting in the time” but said it was something he “wished he’d not done”. He said: “I put my family through something I never wanted to and that can eat you up if you want it to.

That can derail you, you know, I’m not willing to let that [happen], so I put work in, it all comes from action. “I hear about it all the time, and I see it all the time, which is this pity party thing that an addict loves. We love ‘poor me, pour me another drink’ and that is a very enticing way to feel and the guilt of relapse can be a big thing there.

And I think the other option is standing up and going ‘yeah, I f***** up, yeah I messed up and I’m sorry, I’m going to try harder and I’m going to try and be a better person’ and over time that guilt and shame fades and for me it has. “I think of my personal situation and I never thought my wife would trust me again and she does, she really does. And that’s because I’ve shown her that I’m trustworthy and these things are earned and not given and it will take time, the guilt will go but it only happens from you showing you’re willing to change and willing to make moves towards that.

” Matt went on to explain that it’s not just about “talking a good talk”. Instead, the star had to show Emma he could make changes after his relapse. The pair are fronting Love Is Blind: UK together, their first joint presenting job on television.

The hit Netflix show sees contestants put in pods and dating each other through frosted glass. Each picks potential partners and their relationships flourish. If they like each other they can get “engaged” and meet face-to-face outside the pods, living life together for a month before their legal wedding day where they will say “I do” or even “I don’t”.
