The Kandiyohi County Fair dates are Aug. 7-10. There have been some new rules for entering your exhibits at the fair this year, so if you are planning to exhibit, you need to make note of the changes.

The Kandiyohi County Master Gardeners booth will be back again. It will be manned during fair hours by county Master Gardeners and we will be happy to answer your gardening questions. It is a great place to take a load off and sit, visit and enjoy the beautiful flowers.

The theme for the garden this year is GIANTS. Be sure to vote for your favorite scarecrow entry. The winner wins a $25 gift certificate — whoever gets the most votes is the winner.

For those of you who will be entering the scarecrow contest, it will be a bit different. This year you will need to register your entry at the Fair Secretary’s office before you bring it to the Master Gardener area. When you register your scarecrow, it will be Division K, Class 13, Lot 100.

The Master Gardener booth will also be holding a “Largest Zucchini” contest again this year. You won’t find it in the premium book but it is still happening. These zucchinis don’t need to be preregistered but just brought to the Master Gardener area during the fair when it is manned by a Master Gardener, from 10 a.

m. to 8 p.m.

daily. Free zucchini seeds were given out this spring at various events, but zucchini can be from any seed that you planted. The largest zucchini will win a $25 gift certificate.

Now for the change in the fair’s Entry Department rules. The Premium Book says you MUST preregister all your entries online this year. However, when looking into this new rule, we have been told that this year will now be a transition year.

They prefer that you preregister your exhibits online. But they will accept mail-in registration if it is received by them by Aug. 2.

And since this is a transition year, you may also register when you bring your exhibits to the fair. There is also a change in the times to bring your exhibits to the fair. You may bring entries on Monday, Aug.

5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.

m. Entries will also be accepted on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 9 a.

m. to 3 p.m.

No entries will be accepted after 3 p.m. Aug.

6. For a complete list of these rules, go to the 2024 Fair Premium Book. If you did not receive one in the mail, go online to the Kandiyohi County Fair website and you will find the Premium Book printed there.
