A man from Bolton hit the mother of his children over the head with a heavy object in a "frightening" attack. Callum Taylor, aged 31, turned up "drunk" at the woman's house in Bolton on April 8. Taylor, of Green Way, Hall i' th' Wood , was trying to make her drive him somewhere, but she refused.

He proceeded to hit her in the face "with the back of his hand", as well as grabbing her hair and "hitting her on the back of the head with something heavy". He appeared at Bolton Crown Court to be sentenced for his crimes. Rachel Faux, defending, said: "At every hearing I have been at, the defendant has been supported by a significant number of his family members.

"It presents a different side to Callum Taylor which isn't reflected in criticisms in the pre-sentence report." She said how a job was available for him upon release from prison and also highlighted his guilty plea. Ms Faux added: "It is clear from his grandmother's reference that he is somebody, as the eldest sibling of five, who has had responsibilities in difficult circumstances for his younger siblings such as changing nappies and caring for them.
