Chris Ellery who had set off on a solo trip from Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, last Thursday sparked a massive search when he failed to return. However, three days later, the 54-year-old walked into a Garda station in Co Wicklow, having landed on the shores of Kilmichael Point, which he described as “a beautiful remote part of Ireland".
He has also since set up a GoFundMe page to "help support these incredible organisations" after hundreds of RNLI and HM Coastguard volunteers searched the Pembrokeshire coastline for him. The keen photographer posted on social media that he wanted to thank "everyone whose kind messages and support kept my family and friends going during these last few difficult days". His worried family who had arrived in Fishguard after they had not heard from him, had earlier appealed for help in finding him.
