Fans have taken to social media to call-out Silva for a 'feisty' challenge on Garnacho during their Community Shield derby match, played at Wembley on Saturday. It appeared the Portuguese international steamed through the United player, despite him having already played the ball.

Silva looked to only have eyes for his man, sending the 20-year-old Argentine to the deck as he barged through him. Fans on social media branded Silva's tactics a 'disgrace' – and followed up with examples of other matches between the two clubs where the midfielder has committed similar challenges. This was beautiful from Bernardo! I celebrated that challenge 😂 pic.

One posted: 'Absolutely no need for that and also nothing to be proud of he's literally half his age' Another said: '30 year old man trying to hurt a kid, embarrassing behaviour'.

Others believed the challenge deserved some stronger intervention, after Silva managed to escape any further punishment from the referee. 'Lucky to stay on tbh,' one fan wrote. 'No attempt to play the ball just out to get the man.

Should be a red card'. Some spectators, however, praised Bernardo's enthusiasm, saying those kind of challenges simply demonstrated his passion. One wrote: 'Don't mind a bit of fesitiness.

It shows that he got to you.' Another added: 'Love the passion from Bernardo. Absolutely Beautiful.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), one fan shared a video from Manchester United FA Cup Final victory over City back in May, where Silva made an overly aggressive challenge on United's Jonny Evans – the kicker being Evans wasn't even playing. In the video, Silva can be seen running to the touchline to collect a ball that had gone out of play. As he collects it, he turns his back into Evans who is warming up and sends him flying.

He can be seen to apologise to Evans afterwards, but much like his challenge on Garnacho, it looked to be unnecessary. Bernardo Silva has a habit of doing stuff like this, this was to Evans in the last FA Cup Final, needs to be called out more. pic.
