A man has been sentenced after he was found to be in possession of weapons. Osiris Fleming-Rey, 27, was stopped by Tactical Firearms Unit (TFU) officers while driving a black Honda Civic with false registration plates on the A23 southbound into Brighton on November 24, 2023, at around 10pm. Officers believed the vehicle was stolen and found weapons inside, including a sawn-off shotgun and knives.
Fleming-Rey, of Nelson Road, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, was arrested and taken into custody. He told officers that the car was borrowed from a friend, but was unable to recall how, when or where he had met that person. READ MORE: Woman released after man injured in knife incident It was also discovered that he was in breach of a suspended sentence order imposed in January 2023 for possession of a bladed article.
At Guildford Crown Court, Fleming-Rey was found guilty of possessing a firearm and two counts of possessing a knife or bladed article in September. On October 10, he was sentenced to five years in prison. The court ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the weapons and imposed a Deprivation Order to seize the suspected stolen vehicle.
Speaking after the case, TFU Inspector Oli Fisher said: “This case demonstrated the teamwork and professionalism of officers to ensure the vehicle was safely stopped. “The vehicle was then searched and weapons were found. These were seized by police.
