Pune: A 21-year-old man died after he fell from the bonnet of a tractor after it moved in reverse in Karvenagar on Thursday. The Warje Malwadi police identified the deceased as Sahil Somnath Waghmare of Mavale Ali lane in Karvenagar. Waghmare's friend, Ajay Munde (23), who sustained injuries in the same accident, was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The police registered a case under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the tractor driver. Waghmare's father, Somnath (49), who is a newspaper vendor, lodged a complaint against the driver. Assistant inspector Sachin Patil of the Warje Malwadi police said the accident happened around 12.



45am on Thursday at Mavale Ali Chowk in Karvenagar. A dandiya programme was organised at the chowk by a local group. "Loudspeakers for the dandiya were kept on a tractor trolley.

After the dandiya and dinner, the tractor driver brought the tractor near the trolley to take it away," Patil said. He said Waghmare, Munde and one other friend were standing on the bonnet of the tractor, which was parked near the trolley. "The driver reversed the tractor and due to the jerk, Waghmare and Munde fell down.

Waghmare sustained severe head injuries while Munde sustained injuries on his hands and legs," Patil said. He said Waghmare fainted due to heavy bleeding. "The tractor driver stopped a motorcycle and took him to a private hospital on Karve Road, while Munde was taken to the hospital by other me.
