A demanded a refund after paying nearly £5k for a first class flight after he was left shocked by the 'gross' conditions on the plane. The Air India passenger was flying from Chicago to New Dehli non stop, so chose the £4,730 first class seat with comfort in mind for the 15-hour journey. But Anip Patel, founder of CaPatel Investments, was shocked by what he saw.

Mr Patel claimed that every compartment in his seat was “gross”, hair strewn around and “things moving” in the nooks and crannies. "Everything was ripped, ruined or had mildew on it," he added. He documented his experience in a video, showing a large smear on the supposedly luxury seat cover.



Even the headphones provided to him were tangled and covered in mildew, the businessman claimed. He saw tape on the walls seemingly holding parts together, and got the impression that "everything was broken". He said the damage was "next level" and not normal wear and tear.

Mr Patel added that some 30% of the menu was unavailable. Air India had only one of each item, he claimed, so it was “first come first served”. He said a soup served to him was the “only good thing on the flight”.

He said the inflight entertainment and Wi-Fi were on the blink, despite crew resetting systems several times. This meant he had to "raw dog" the flight. Mr Patel said he had heard negative things about Air India in the past, but he was hoping it would have improved.
