Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police on Thursday arrested a 37-year-old man on the charge of bludgeoning his distant relative with a stick and later throttling him to death late on Wednesday night in Rase village near Chakan. The deceased was identified as Sandip Khande (40) of Rase. The Pimpri crime branch arrested Khande's relative, Suresh Mengal (37) of Rase village, based on a tip-off.

They also arrested Mengal's accomplice, Dilip Aghan (30), who allegedly helped him in the crime. "The suspect murdered his relative as the latter used to abuse and harass him in public over petty issues," deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Shivaji Pawar said. Investigations revealed that Mengal had been planning the murder for the last six months.

On Wednesday night, Mengal found Khande drunk. Under the pretext of consuming more liquor, he brought Khande to a stream on the outskirts of Rase to consume liquor. The suspect left the victim at the spot under the pretext of getting more liquor, said an officer of the Pimpri Chinchwad police, adding, "Mengal took Aghan along to the spot.

The victim had slept off. The duo bludgeoned him with a stick and throttled him to death. They dumped the body in the bushes and left.
