Summary Delta, United, and American Airlines have extended their flight suspensions to Israel due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Global carriers, including Ryanair and the Lufthansa Group, have also suspended flights to Tel Aviv amid the conflict. Some carriers have had to reroute flights to avoid airspace in the region, leading to longer routes for some services.

With the situation in the Middle East still volatile, major carriers around the world, including the big three US airlines, continue to suspend flights to Israel. Delta Air Lines has extended its flight suspension until September end, while United and American’s suspension will also last for several more months. Nonstop services between the United States and Israel have once again taken a severe hit following the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. Delta had previously decided to suspend the Tel Aviv-New York JFK flights in August. However, given the tension in the Middle East, the carrier has decided to err on the side of caution and extend the suspension until the end of September.

United and American flights remain suspended Earlier this month, United Airlines had also suspended its Tel Aviv flights from Newark indefinitely for security reasons. The airline flew daily between the two airports and will now monitor the geopolitical situation closely before resuming service. A few days ago, it was reported that American Airlines suspended Tel Aviv flights until March 29 .

The carrier has not served flights to Tel Aviv since October last year. It said that it will continue to work closely with its partner airlines to assist customers traveling between Israel and European cities with service to the US. Both United and Delta also suspended flights to Israel in 2023 but resumed service earlier this year, only to be suspended again.

United resumed flights to Tel Aviv in March but suspended them again in April. It then brought them back in June, and Delta soon followed with its own service resumption between New York JFK and Tel Aviv. Currently, the only nonstop service between the United States and Israel is by El Al.

Global carriers suspend Tel Aviv flights, too With the conflict in the Middle East still ongoing, many global carriers have also decided to suspend flights to Israel. European low-cost carrier Ryanair has also canceled its Tel-Aviv services until at least September 30, citing “operational restrictions which are beyond our control.

” The carrier had plans to connect Tel Aviv with seven destinations, including Athens and Berlin. The Lufthansa Group, which also includes SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Eurowings, has also decided to extend flight suspension to Israel and a bunch of other Middle East destinations until at least August 26. Earlier this month, Air India also announced a flight suspension to Israel amid tension in the region and said that passengers booked on the affected flights would be given a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancelation charges.

Wizz Air, LOT, and ITA have all joined the list of carriers that have suspended services to Israel in recent weeks. Airlines have also had to reroute some of their services, avoiding Iranian, Israeli, and Lebanese airspace. Flights from major airlines that connect Asia and Southeast Asia with Europe and North America can still be seen avoiding airspace in the region, resulting in slightly longer routes and flight times.
