New Delhi: Delhi's iconic Sarojini Nagar Market, along with Malcha Market and Aliganj Market, is set to undergo a major transformation as part of the New Delhi Municipal Council's (NDMC) urban renewal initiative. On Tuesday, NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal unveiled plans to redevelop these three key markets under Phase-I of the project. During a press briefing, Chahal outlined the council's vision to modernise urban spaces in line with the Delhi Master Plan 2021.
The redevelopment of Sarojini Nagar, known for its budget-friendly fashion, will involve a complete overhaul. The mixed-use building will be converted into a fully commercial hub, with retail and commercial spaces spanning the ground floor, first and second floors, and part of the third floor, providing more room for shoppers and increasing the market's revenue potential. "This revamp aims to preserve the market's cultural charm while transforming it into a more organised and modern shopping centre, attracting more visitors and vendors," Chahal explained.
In addition to Sarojini Nagar, Aliganj Market and Malcha Marg Market will also see significant infrastructure upgrades, including enhanced parking facilities, smart street furniture, improved horticulture, and better public amenities, creating a more comfortable and appealing environment for both traders and customers.
