Pune: Taps will run dry in most areas of the city on Thursday as the civic body ’s water supply department has planned repair and maintenance works at all major supply units, pumping stations and overhead tanks. The water supply from the Bhama Askhed unit to eastern areas like Wadgaonsheri, Nagar Road, and Chandannagar will, however, continue without interruptions as no repairs have been planned there. Authorities from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) said the supply will be resumed in phases from Friday morning, depending on the completion of works.

The units where repairs are planned include Khadakwasla jackwell, Parvati water works, Wadgaon water unit, Cantonment water works, and Holkar water unit. Water will not be supplied to the overhead tanks at Chatushrungi, SNDT, and Warje from these units and further to the distribution networks. The teams deployed for the repairs and maintenance will check the functioning of the electrical supply, and water pumps and will take up the repairs accordingly.

An official from the PMC’s water supply department said repairs were being taken up now to avoid disruptions during the coming festive days. “The administration generally does not plan day-long repairs during festive times to avoid inconvenience,” he said. “It is necessary to know the details as even after the repairs, residents of many parts across the city continue to face water shortages and erratic supply.
