The five-star resort near Darlington has put forward two planning applications following the appointment of James Close earlier this year as its culinary director. He is renowned for transforming the former Raby Hunt restaurant in County Durham into a two-Michelin-starred establishment. The first application details plans for a new pavilion intended to host a flagship restaurant, which Rockliffe hopes will garner "award-winning quality".
A second proposal aims to refurbish the hotel's Grade II listed Old Hall, maintaining its historical allure while upgrading guest accommodations and other areas of the resort. Enhancements are set to improve upper-floor guest rooms and create seamless connections between the cocktail bar, drawing room, and terrace. Additionally, there are designs to upgrade the landscaping to complement the Old Hall's north façade.
