Vadodara: A major mishap was averted at a garba ground in Anand district on Thursday midnight when fire engulfed a selfie-cum-photo booth just opposite the venue on Vallabh Vidyanagar Road . Officials said that the selfie-cum-photo booth, located near the food court erected by the Vidyanagar Road Yuvak Mandal, caught fire, resulting in panic. No injuries or casualties were reported due to the incident, said district officials.

The Vidyanagar Road Yuvak Mandal had organized the garba at the Vrundavan ground. "We received a call at about 12.10 am post-midnight on Thursday," said Dharmesh Gor, Anand fire officer.

"There were stalls outside the garba venue. One of them was a photo booth . The fire had engulfed the stall due to a short circuit," said Gor, adding that since the stall was away from the garba ground and volunteers were trained, a major mishap was averted.

"The garba organizers had kept enough fire extinguishers. Just before the garba started on the first night, we had provided training to all the volunteers and security staff at the garba ground on how to operate fire extinguishers in case of emergency," he said. "This training seems to have helped the volunteers as they had doused the fire even before we reached the spot," Gor said, adding that similar training in firefighting has been provided to other garba organizers as well.
