The father of murdered JonBenét Ramsey is hopeful that a new, major breakthrough in the 28-year-old cold case could finally lead to the identification of his daughter's killer . Next month, John Ramsey is reportedly slated to sit down with the new chief of the Boulder Police Department, Stephen Redfearn, to discuss bringing in the FBI to the case. Doing so, he said, might help them find the killer, as the FBI harbors new, cutting-edge DNA testing technology that could be used to retest several items recovered from the crime scene.

The Ramseys have a complicated past with the department, which has repeatedly shut down requests to look into the cold case under previous leadership. Nevertheless, John is hopeful that Redfearn will be open to the idea. JonBenét was found badly beaten and strangled to death in the basement of the family's home in Boulder, Colorado, on Dec.

Since then, there have been hundreds of tips, leads, and even possible suspects, but no one has yet been formally charged with the murder — the case has remained unsolved for exactly 28 years.
