A memorial service for Lacy E. Hagood, Jr. will be held at 10 a.

m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service. Visitation will be held from 5 p.



m. until 7 p.m.

, Wednesday, September 18, at the funeral home. Lacy passed Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Lacy Edmunds Hagood, Jr.

was born September 16, 1946 at Fort Monroe, Virginia to Lacy E. Hagood, Sr. and Margaret Vaughn Hagood.

Lacy’s father was a career Army officer and was at many duty stations, including Japan and Hawaii. Lacy was very athletic, being a swimmer and having played baseball and football. He earned a swimming scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University, where he graduated.

He was a two-time All-American Champion swimmer in 1969 and 1972 and broke many collegiate pool records with the butterfly stroke. He even swam against Olympian gold medalist Mark Spitz. He was in ROTC while in college and joined the Army.

He was a Signal Corp Officer, cross-trained in Field Artillery and had three commands that he was very proud of. He married Susan Lewis and his two daughters Lindsey and Diana were born. After his first marriage, Lacy married his high school sweetheart, Donna Hagood, on January 14, 1974.

They celebrated 50 years together this year. Lacy adopted Donna’s son, Jeff, and his third daughter Michelle was born to complete the family. When Lacy retired from the Army after 20 years, his hobby of gardening began.

He had a small business, Mountain View Iris Gardens out of Lake Ellsworth in Elgin. He grew and sold Iris all over the U.S.

He was a member of the American Iris Society. He had a hybridized Iris named after him, a beautiful Lacy Pink Iris. Lacy and Donna adopted both of their grandchildren Trent and Lacy.

Lacy was involved with their sports, coaching and supporting them the whole time they played baseball and softball. Lacy also had a passion for hunting and was a member of the Ft. Sill skeet club.
