Pune: Amidst suspense over the seat-sharing formula in Mahayuti for the assembly poll, state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that 85% has been finalised and the plan will be announced after Navaratra . Like Mahayuti, the opposition has also not been able to come to a consensus over seat sharing . A fresh round of MVA meetings in Mumbai could not arrive at a decision.

Speaking to TOI, Bawankule said, "All major parties in the alliance have had a healthy discussion over seat sharing and we have consensus in 85% assembly seats. The discussion on the remaining segments is going on and we are hopeful that it will be finalised by the end of Navaratra festival." Maharashtra has 288 assembly seats.



In the 2019 assembly polls, BJP had contested 164 seats and its then alliance partner, the undivided Shiv Sena, had contested 124 seats. On the other side, the Congress and the then undivided NCP had fielded candidates on 125 seats each. Now, following the split in both Shiv Sena and NCP, new alliances were formed and based on the composition of parties, the seat-sharing formula is being discussed both in Mahayuti and MVA.

There are some seats for both MVA and Mahayuti where more than one party is staking a claim, and those seats have remained a bone of contention in both alliances.
