This year, the country celebrates the 155th anniversary of Bapu’s birth, emphasizing his enduring message of non-violence and truth. October 2 is not only significant in India but is also recognized globally as the International Day of Non-Violence .

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 , in Porbandar, Gujarat . He played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence, advocating for non-violent protests against British colonial rule. His philosophy, known as Satyagraha , emphasizes the principles of truth and peaceful resistance, leading to India’s independence in 1947 .



Following his assassination in 1948 , Gandhi Jayanti was established as a national holiday to honor his legacy and promote the ideals of peace and harmony. Gandhi Jayanti holds profound significance for Indians, serving as a day to reflect on Gandhi’s teachings and incorporate them into everyday life.
