Pune: A contingent of 38 air cadets , comprising 12 girls, topped the flying activity for the second consecutive time at the All India Vayu Sainik Camp of NCC held at Jalahalli Air Force Station in Bengaluru from September 26 to October 6. During the competition, air cadets from 15 NCC directorates across the country appeared for written examinations on flying-related topics such as air navigation, aerodynamics, engines, emergency procedures etc. Of the 38 cadets, 16 were from Pune NCC group, while the remaining 16 were from Mumbai and six from Nagpur.

These cadets study flying comprehensively and apply their theoretical knowledge during the actual flight of an aircraft. The understanding of flying concepts is the most essential thing for cadets before getting practical experience on the plane, said the officials. Commanding Officer of 3 Maharashtra Air Squadron, Group Captain Abhijit Khedkar, noted that the cadets scored exceedingly well in flying and emergency procedures.



"Their thorough knowledge of aviation-related subjects, including navigation, meteorology, engines, airframes, and aerodynamics, helped achieve this feat. It is indeed a matter of pride for Maharashtra," Khedkar told TOI. The NCC senior division cadets completed two sorties of flying in the second year and four sorties in the third year of their training.

Each cadet has to fly the aircraft for two hours. The simulator helps achieve this, said an official. In January 2018, the NCC Group Headquarters in Pune.
