Pune: Office-bearers of the Maharashtra unit of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have announced that they will be joining the NCP (SCP). After meeting Sharad Pawar here, BRS members confirmed the joining date as Oct 6. Last month, BRS members also met NCP (SCP) state president Jayant Patil in Ahmednagar's Akole.
Speaking to TOI, Pune division coordinator of state BRS, Balasaheb Deshmukh, said, "All our office-bearers were present for the meeting with Sharad Pawar in Pune. After discussing various issues, we came to the conclusion that we will join his party. He has given us a positive signal and accordingly, 95% of Maharashtra BRS will join NCP (SCP) on Oct 6.
" Former chief minister of Telangana, K Chandrashekar Rao , floated the BRS party, which tasted success in his state. Following this, Rao extended his party to other states, including Maharashtra. According to Maharashtra BRS office-bearers, over 22 lakh people from the state joined as members.
However, after a debacle in the Telangana assembly elections, the BRS performance remained dismal in Lok Sabha elections as well. Deshmukh told TOI, "BRS brought out some really good policies in favour of farmers. Inspired by this, we also joined the party in Maharashtra as we wanted to replicate these policies here.
However, after the defeat in Telangana and subsequent political developments, the party's work in Maharashtra has halted. We started looking for a political alternative and found that Sharad Pawar's party has a similar id.
