Green algae and mould quickly take hold to the stone slabs but don't despair - there's no need to fork out on a pricey jet washer. There's actually a great bargain buy from B&Q and it has gardening fans raving.

They say it works like "magic" at getting rid of pesky patio stains. The solution was originally shared on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, where a woman asked: "Looking for advice on cleaning my patio. Every year I clean it with my pressure washer but over the summer I have to keep doing it to keep on top of it as it still goes green.

This year however it's REALLY BAD! Looking for a product to put on that will prevent it from the green coming back so quickly, does anyone have any recommendations? " Fellow cleaning fanatics flocked to the comments section, many of them suggesting the same product, which is called Patio Magic . Bottles are available for just £12.75 at the homeware store.

It claims to be "ideal for killing and controlling most algae, moss and mould on driveways and patios in a single application". B&Q's review section is stuffed full of five-star reviews. One happy customer said: "Great product for getting rid of green moss without having to scrub.

Bought this several times as it is a very good product." A second chimed in: "Brilliant Patio Cleaner - Easy to use gets rid of all the Green - our driveway, paths and patio come up a treat. Just spray and leave.

Long lasting too. Always use this." A third explained how they sploshed it on their fences that had become green and blackened through the winter months.
