Monday, August 5, 2024 Nestled in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Historic Centre of Macau, M8 is poised for its soft opening in September 2024, just 50 meters from Senado Square on Travessa Do Roquete. This groundbreaking urban renewal project is spearheaded by China State Construction Engineering (Macau) Co. Ltd.

, a subsidiary of China State Construction International Holdings Limited, marking a significant achievement for the company. M8 represents a commitment to sustainable development in Macau, preserving the sentiments and memories of the local community. It aims to revitalize Macau’s city center, transforming it into a cultural landmark, tourist attraction, boutique shopping hub, and experiential vertical complex, establishing itself as a new cultural and commercial icon in Macau.

The name “M8” is steeped in rich significance. “M” signifies Macau, while “8” reflects its unique location, occupying 8% of Macau’s original land and surrounded by eight world heritage sites within a hundred-meter radius. These heritage sites encompass Senado Square, IAM Building, the Holy House of Mercy, the Cathedral, Cathedral Square, Lou Kau Mansion, St.

Dominic’s Church, and St. Dominic’s Square. M8, a project designed by the Oval Partnership, is being developed on the site of the former dormitory for Macau Post Office employees.

The design draws heavily from Macau’s diverse historical culture, incorporating both Chinese and Portuguese architectural elements. This harmonious blend of old and new, dynamic and static, rejuvenates old materials and seamlessly integrates with the surrounding urban fabric. M8’s construction creates a building that naturally “grows” from the land, forging a connection between Senado Square and the ancient streets that surround it.

This innovative approach enriches the cultural tapestry, extends tourist pathways, revitalizes the local community, and sets a new standard for urban renewal. Even before its grand opening, M8 has garnered numerous international awards. In June 2023, its facade material achieved a Guinness World Record for the “Largest Curved Stone-Laminated Glass.

” By December 2023, M8 had secured the Gold Award for “Best Retail Development (Asia)” at the 18th PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards, distinguishing itself as one of only three Chinese projects to earn the Asia Gold Award that year and the first in the history of Hong Kong and Macau to do so. In May 2024, M8 was honored with the Platinum Award for “Property Development – Retail Development” at the 2024 TITAN Property Awards, being the sole Chinese project in this category. M8 has embraced an innovative full-floor leasing strategy to establish a premier hub for international brands in the heart of Macau.

Among its distinguished tenants, M8 proudly welcomes DFS, the world’s leading travel retailer, which will showcase over 120 meticulously curated local and international brands across three floors, offering a diverse range of options in watches, beauty, and food & gifts. The dining sector at M8 will feature three exceptional restaurants making their Macau debut: Mango Tree from Thailand, Modern Shanghai Imperial from Hong Kong, and Terrace in Seaside from Incheon, Korea, thereby enriching Macau’s culinary landscape. Additionally, M8 will host a variety of international fashion and European boutique brands, positioning itself as a prime destination for discerning shoppers.

M8 is set to begin trial operations in September 2024, introducing a new cultural and retail experience to Macau. Visitors will be able to indulge in one-stop shopping, unique dining, and leisure activities, all while experiencing the seamless blend of urban integration. We warmly invite everyone to join us in celebrating this grand opening, where the elegance of the past and present converge! About China Construction Engineering (Macau) Co.
