Friday, October 4, 2024 The 47th WorldSkills Competition, held from September 10 to 15 in Lyon, France, brought together over 1,400 young competitors from across the globe. Three Macao competitors trained by the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) earned Medallions for Excellence, with UTM students Huang Wenyi and Chan Chi Lek excelling in Cooking and Hotel Reception, and University of Macau student Nelia Choi Rodrigues winning in Restaurant Service. Since 2015, UTM has been representing Macao in this prestigious event under the Labour Affairs Bureau’s guidance, preparing competitors in categories such as Hotel Reception, Bakery, Pâtisserie and Confectionery, Restaurant Service, and Cooking.
The university’s collaboration with industry partners has helped enhance training programs, resulting in this success. Huang Wenyi and Chan Chi Lek both praised the competition for helping them develop their skills and thanked UTM for offering professional training and opportunities for personal growth. They encouraged other students to participate, as the event offers a unique chance for both skill development and personal growth.
UTM acknowledged its expert trainers, including Benjamin Chen (Cooking), Kurma Mac (Hotel Reception), and Antonio Miguel Oliveira (Restaurant Service), who contributed to the success. The university also thanked local industry partners, including Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 and Angsana Zhuhai Hengqin, for their support during training sessions. Looking forwar.
