DRIVERS in Glasgow are being warned ahead of road works on a busy stretch of the motorway starting next week. A section of the M8 westbound will be closed overnight between Anderston and Townhead from 10pm on Sunday 8 September. 1 A section of Glasgow's M8 motorway is set to close for six weeks Motorists are being urged to plan ahead and allow additional time to travel through diversions.

Emergency vehicle access will not be affected by the disruption. The work is set to be carried out between Sunday 8 September and Friday 25 October from 10pm until 6am each night - excluding Fridays and Saturdays to minimise disruption. It comes as Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland , is undertaking a package of essential overnight maintenance on the westbound M8 between Junctions 16, Craighall, and J18, Charing Cross, which will be carried out in multiple phases throughout 2024.

Traffic intending to travel on the M8 westbound will be taken off at Junction 16, Craighall, onto Dobbie's Loan westbound where it will follow the diversion onto Garscube Road and onto West Graham Street westbound. From here, they will rejoin the motorway at Junction 17 at West Graham Street.

Junction 15 loop on traffic will be diverted southbound onto Castle Street, Cathedral Street, North Hanover Street and onto Cowcaddens Road to join the mainline diversion at West Graham Street westbound. Otherwise, any vehicles which deviate from the diversion route could be issued with a penalty notice charge from Glasgow City Council..
