While Canadians are dreaming about luxury, they’re more likely to invest in practicality when it comes to their vehicles, an AutoTrader study suggests. The online automotive sales platform has compiled a list of the top 10 searched for and purchased vehicles in Canada for 2024. While the Ford-150 pickup and Toyota RAV4 SUV were No.
1 and No. 2 on both the most searched and most traded vehicles lists this year, luxury brands like the BMW 3 Series, Porsche 911 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class also ranked high on car buyer wish lists. AutoTrader’s statistics, however, showed buyers gravitated toward more practical choices like the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and Hyundai Tucson.
In a news release, AutoTrader noted there were no luxury nameplates on its “top sold” list for the second year running in 2024. AutoTrader noted luxury brands saw their lowest representation in both searches and sales since 2019, as consumer interest shifted toward practical, mainstream autos. “Each year, AutoTrader analyzes millions of data points to uncover the evolving story of Canadian vehicle shopping behaviours,” noted Ian MacDonald, AutoTrader’s chief marketing officer, in the release.
