A LUXURY car brand is set to release a high-performance sporty EV next year to finally rival the Porsche Taycan. There has now been a first glimpse of the Mercedes-AMG’ s flagship four-door EV after months of speculation. The stunning new motor is set to rival the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi E-Tron GT RS Performance.
The sleek design features frameless doors, huge wheels, a distinct bonnet and generous overhangs. The cutting edge EV showcases bespoke architecture called AMG.EA, with an emphasis on speed and power.
The official teaser image for the motor shows it undergoing testing near the Arctic Circle. Read more in motors Expert predict the new motor will carry a chunky price tag, possibly well over six figures. AMG says the new model and its platform are “still at the beginning of a demanding and comprehensive test plan, which will span multiple proving grounds, continents and climate zones”.
Fans are hoping to learn more about the motor in the coming months. Bosses at the German power house have said the car is set to go on sale next year. Most read in Motors Mercedes has now discontinued the EQC from its retail offering with little fanfare.
There was no significant announcement from the brand, with the model simply no longer being available to purchase. According to AutoExpress , the decision was made as the EQC struggled to keep up with newer competitors, including from within Mercedes' own range. The model was introduced in 2019 with few rivals, but the pace of development in the electric SUV category has been brutal since then.
Virtually every large carmaker now offers some form of electric SUV or crossover, many of which came in well below the Merc's £74,000 price tag. Chinese electronics brand Xiaomi , who are best-known for their range of smartphones, entered the bold world of EVs back in March with its Speed Ultra 7, or SU7.
Now the ambitious brand is lining up the SU7 Ultra - a high-performance electric saloon with a top speed of 217mph and more power than a Bugatti Chiron, according to AutoExpress .
