Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski and Maryland Department of Health Secretary Laura Herrera Scott have announced that Lucy Wilson has been named the Batimore County Health Officer and director of the county's department of health and human services. Wilson, a public health trained and board-certified infectious disease physician, specialized in the areas of infectious disease epidemiology and public health response, serving in leadership roles at Johns Hopkins University and the Maryland Department of Health. Most recently, she directed the professor and graduate program at UMBC's Department of Emergency Health Services.

Wilson said she anticipates working with county officials to address critical health issues facing local residents and communities. "I am honored to work with County Executive Olszewski, Baltimore County leaders, and my DHHS colleagues to address critical public health issues across our communities,” Wilson said. “I’m eager to get to work ensuring equitable, high-quality public health services, using innovative, person-centered approaches, and improving health and quality of life outcomes for all Baltimore County residents.

" This new role will be somewhat of a continuation of the work Wilson has done at the academic and state government levels. As Baltimore County’s health officer and director of health and human services, Wilson will be responsible for internal governance and administrative purposes for the agency, county officials said. .
