IN a significant move to enhance economic development and youth empowerment across Lagos State, the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to further strengthen their collaboration in promoting youth employment and entrepreneurship in Lagos State. The signing ceremony was held at the LSETF office in Lagos and was attended by USADF President/CEO Travis Adkins; Executive Secretary (Ag.), LSETF, FeyisayoAlayande; Lagos State Commissioner of Wealth Creation and Employment Hon.

AkinyemiAjigbotafe, and other representatives and distinguished guests from the government and private sectors. This MOU builds on the success of the ongoing USADF-LSETF Employability Programme, which has already trained over 10,500 young people in various sectors since its inception in 2019, with 63 percent of this total number being women. The program’s comprehensive approach, combining training, financial assistance, paid internship and mentorship, has empowered young people to acquire skills, start businesses, and secure jobs, thus contributing significantly to the economic growth of Lagos State.



Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, LSETF’s Executive Secretary (Ag.) highlighted the importance of this renewed commitment, stating, “Our initial partnership in 2019 marked a significant milestone in our journey towards addressing youth unemployment in Lagos State. Through the Employability Support Program, we have successfully trained over 10,500 young Lagosians in various skills, with over 7,000 of them securing employment or starting their own businesses.

This achievement is a testament to the power of collaboration and the commitment of both LSETF and USADF to empowering our youth.” She added “Today, we take another step forward by renewing our partnership through this new MOU. This renewed commitment underscores our shared vision of creating a more prosperous and inclusive Lagos.

” President/CEO of USADF, Travis Adkins noted that the foundation was proud to deepen its partnership with the Lagos State Government to empower youth and drive economic growth. “This collaboration is historical because it extends the relationship between USADF and LSETF beyond the 5 years of the initial MoU. It is also a testament to our shared commitment to creating opportunities and building a brighter future for Nigeria’s youth,” he said.

The new MOU will focus on expanding access to training and facilitating more job placement opportunities. The partnership will also support the development of innovative solutions to address critical challenges facing young people in Lagos State. Hon.

It was important to highlight the significance of the collaboration. As the implementing partner of USADF in Nigeria,it is a delight to advance this impactful collaboration. Their role involves providing technical support and ensuring the seamless execution of the program.

By equipping young Nigerians with essential skills and resources, they are driving sustainable economic growth and nurturing the next generation of leaders. Since the launch of the USADF-LSETF Employability program in 2019, over 10,500 individuals have received training across various key sectors including Construction, Creative Industries, Education, Health & Beauty, Hospitality & Tourism, Renewable Energy, Services, and Technology. This MoU signing represents not just a formal agreement but a significant stride towards a more prosperous and empowered future for the youth of Lagos State.
