Love Island Australia is back for another year, with a new cast of sexy singles coupling up, cracking on, turning heads and putting eggs in baskets. For the uninitiated, the premise is simple: based on the reality TV behemoth that is Love Island UK , the show sees single contestants live together in a luxury Spanish villa in an attempt to find that elusive four-letter word, love. “Bombshells” (i.

e. new contestants), brutal “dumpings” (contestants getting voted out of the villa) and re-couplings (contestants “coupling up” to avoid said dumpings) make for plenty of drama – and that’s not including the flirting, fighting and, yes, fornication. Plus, there’s a AU$50,000 ($55,000) cash prize incentive for the winning couple – take from that what you will.



While cynics say its contestants are only there to find overnight fame (and social media followings), that is beside the point, says Sophie Monk , an Australian model, actress and reality TV star in her own right. Oh, and the host of Love Island Australia, a role she has held since its 2018 inception. Even contestants with ulterior motives often end up finding love in some capacity, Monk says during a phone interview on Tuesday, the day the sixth season premieres on TVNZ+ in New Zealand.

“I think [contestants apply] for both,” Monk, 44, says matter-of-factly. “The people who do go in there thinking, ‘I’d like the profile or the followers’, they end up falling in love – they’re all single,” sh.
