A new shop with a unique offering of contemporary and modern design furniture and interior pieces is set to open in Gosforth this weekend. Founded by Jim Gregory, the owner of Flea Circus in Ouseburn, the new DE.CO shop - standing for Design Collective - will be a curated interior space with a heavy focus on artwork and emphasis on selling modern and contemporary pieces from local designers.
ChronicleLive caught up with Jim ahead of the grand opening of DE.CO in Gosforth shopping centre, who explained how the new shop will open doors to more opportunities for local makers and sellers. Speaking on the unique offering behind DE.
CO, Jim said: "We're creating a contemporary interior space that brings together both modern designers and furniture makers and pairing that with some mid-century pieces which I'm really passionate about. "There's a collective element to DE.CO and we'll have pieces from lots of brilliant people from a heavy North East network, as well as wider UK based designers such as Nick James, Kevin Tronel, Micheal Armstrong and Josie Brookes to name a few.
"We'll also have a heavy focus on art in the shop and will be showcasing lots of original art and prints within the gallery wall space." DE.CO plans to join the Own Art initiative - a national scheme that makes buying contemporary art and craft affordable by letting customers spread the cost purchase over 10 month period with an interest free loan.
