This year the I’m a Celebrity ...

Get Me Out of Here! host is playing to her strengths in a one-shouldered red gown from Melbourne dressmaker Alin Le’ Kal. Television personality Julia Morris preparing for the Logies ceremony. Morris has collaborated with Le’ Kal on four previous Logies outfits.

For comfort’s sake, we’re hoping Morris commits to the red sneakers she revealed on her Instagram account while having her lipstick applied before taking to the red carpet. Morris is going against the tide of big black dresses expected to flood this year’s ceremony, with Velani couturier Nicky Velani turning her six clients, including Georgie Parker and Sarah Harris, towards the dark side. They’re going to finish early! Nah, I’m just kidding.

They will probably blow out again. But some wholesale changes to Logies voting and categories have come into effect for this year. The previous most popular and most outstanding categories will be combined under a new “best” banner.

Previously, most popular awards were voted by fans, while most outstanding was voted on by a jury of Australian TV industry professionals. Celia Pacquola is among the nominees for best lead actress in a comedy. Winners of the “best” awards will be decided by a combined score as determined by judges, according to the assessment criteria (30 per cent), supplied audience data (20 per cent) and number of Australian public votes (50 per cent).

The awards have also finally decided to separate comedy and drama in the acting categories, with each category having its own best actor and actress awards, in a move that mirrors the US Emmy Awards. Other changes include miniseries or telemovies being separated from the drama category, and the comedy and reality categories will, for the first time, be split into scripted comedy and comedy entertainment, and competition reality and structured reality, respectively. Not Hamish Blake! Sorry, it just felt appropriate to get that out of the way early; in fact, Blake isn’t even nominated.

Instead, it seems likely that this year’s Gold will be a three-horse race between ABC’s Tony Armstrong, the “nicest man on TV” Larry Emdur, and I’m A Celebrity...

With six million Instagram followers, he dwarfs Armstrong (169,000) and Emdur (171,000) on social media. However, Emdur has been the focus of a high-profile #EmdurForGold campaign by Channel Seven, and the bookies now have him at short odds to take it out. It appears The Price Is Right for Emdur to win Gold.

There’s also the feel-good factor. Emdur is a much-loved TV veteran who hosts two daily shows, The Morning Show and The Chase, meaning the network’s campaign has been front and centre during voting. Emdur, Armstrong, Andy Lee, Robert Irwin, Sonia Kruger and Julia Morris attended the nominations announcement in June 23 (Asher Keddie was absent).

Blake’s offsider Andy Lee is up for his fourth Gold Logie nomination, and so is Irwin’s co-host, Julia Morris. Meanwhile, former winner Asher Keddie is nominated again alongside last year’s winner, Sonia Kruger.

But if you’re asking me (and you’re not, I’m telling you), this is Larry’s to lose. If you feel like proving me wrong, there is still time to vote ! Voting for the Gold Logie closes at 10.30pm (AEST) tonight.
