Applicant Homeplan Construction wants to demolish a bungalow in Begbroke Lane, Begbroke, and build a 2.5 storey building to provide five two-bed flats with car parking cycle parking and bin stores. Local people have raised concerns over the scheme, saying it would be out of keeping with the area.
Three residents have submitted objections to with one neutral comment. George Thomas, of Begbroke Crescent, said: “My first reason is it is not in keeping with the surrounding area, which is mainly bungalows. “My second reason is the car parking aspect.
With five flats, that is potentially 10 cars, plus visitors. Are they going to provide parking for 15 vehicles? Begbroke Lane is currently a narrow road with virtually no on road parking, and this will just make matters much worse. “My third reason is privacy.
The upper flats will be overlooking the neighbours gardens. As stated previously, the area is mainly bungalows.” Lewis Burke-Smith, also of Begbroke Crescent, added: “As a Begbroke resident I'd be very disappointed if this received planning permission.
“This looks very out of keeping with Begbroke, especially Begbroke Lane. Begbroke Lane is a set of family houses, mainly bungalows. I feel visually this would not look nice at all.
“I'm all for development in the right setting and environment for example, if this were replaced with a modern bungalow which could be rented or bought by a family, I would fully endorse this. "But it is not right to have Begbroke turned i.
