Every year at our Live2Lead event, I visit the various organizations in attendance and hear this: "Our boss should have been here,” ...

"Our boss needed to see this," ...



"Our boss would have loved it.” So where was the boss? Most of them don’t attend trainings of any kind, and I’ve heard all kinds of reasons for that. I’ll list a few as you read further.

We do get senior leaders at our event, but far too many are no-shows and I think they’re missing a huge opportunity. This column is written specifically for them. If you’re not the lead person in your organization, you can help the team by tearing out this page and giving it to them.

Here are the three main excuses I’ve heard for the boss not attending. Key bonus 1: The beauty of observation I suggest that you hand off the duty of leading the table discussions to someone else who can keep things moving. That frees you up to be a participant, and to watch and listen.
