The summer holidays can be expensive, so if you're looking for a budget-friendly outing, look no further than this free water park that's not too far away from Manchester. Rivelin Valley Water Play, a popular spot for family outings during the summer months, offers a fun experience at no cost. The site has been a leisure hub since 1909, but the current park opened in 2013, and has since become a firm favourite with people of all ages.

The water park can be found in the Rivelin Valley woodlands in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, around one hour's drive away from Manchester. From Spring Bank half term to the first weekend in September, the park opens on weekends until school holidays begin, then it welcomes visitors daily. It's equipped with disabled access, including ramped entryways, special 'aqua' wheelchairs, a changing places toilet, and three large splash pads featuring anti-slip surfaces.

A reviewer named Zottle shared their experience: "Parked at Walkley Bank Tilt car park which was small but free. We were a group of 3 adults and 3 teens. Everyone really enjoyed it here.

The gorge has stepping stones, bridges to cross, various routes to choose from. It was a beautiful adventure. We spent about 3 hours here.

Could easily have spent longer here but it gives us an excuse to return instead as there is plenty more to explore next time!" Alice shared her family outing experience, saying: "It is always a challenge to find somewhere that teens say was 'alright' - but this is one of them! They enjoyed deciding which way to go - over the bridge or the stepping stones? - and spent a couple of hours wandering cheerfully. "The cafe was ok - the toasties were yummy as were the smoothies. A twenty minute wait felt quite long.

Lots of free parking on Walkley Bank Road." For those looking to visit, the spot is conveniently located just off Rivelin Park Road. If you want ideas and inspiration to plan your next UK adventure plus selected offers and competitions, sign up for our 2Chill weekly newsletter here.
