Casey Ferrin, 18, whose address was given as Kilcorig Road in Lisburn, appeared before Lisburn Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 18, 2024 to face the driving charge. The court heard that on Monday, April 8, 2024 police on patrol in the Hillsborough Road area of Sprucefield stopped a Peugeot 307 being driven by the defendant after checks showed there was no active insurance policy for the vehicle on the police database. The defendant was not able to produce the insurance policy at the roadside. She was subsequently issued with a demand by the police and was told to produce the insurance policy at the police station within seven days. On April 15 the defendant attended Lisburn police station but was unable to produce valid insurance for the day in question.

It was stated that the defendant produced an insurance policy that was dated April 9, 2024, meaning the vehicle was uninsured on the date of the offence April 8, 2024. "It is very unfortunate. She is an R driver and only 18.” District Judge Rosie Watters disqualified the defendant from driving for one month.

Ms Watters also imposed a fine of £200 and an offender’s levy of £15. She allowed the defendant 26 weeks to pay the fines. Did you know with an ad-lite subscription to NorthernIrelandWorld, you get 70% fewer ads while viewing the news that matters to you.
