One of the men is Oscar-winning documentary-maker Alex Gibney ( Taxi to the Dark Side ). The other is David Chase, creator of a groundbreaking TV mobster classic. A quarter-century on from The Sopranos’ debut, it is the subject of this fascinating series, along with the life and career of its creator.
Fittingly, the pair co-habit a set replicating Dr Melfi’s office from the hit show. This choice of doctor/patient for Gibney’s keynote interviews goes beyond showbiz gimmickry. Its significance becomes clear as Chase walks the documentarian through his gloomy upbringing in New Jersey.
