"The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the international[ly] acclaimed award-winning actor Connie Chiume," read part of the statement. Chiume died at Garden City Hospital on Tuesday, 6 August. Messages of condolences have been coming from people of all walks of life who had admired Chiume's work and impact in the industry.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie extended his condolences to the legendary actor's family, friends and fans. "Her passing at age 72 marks a profound loss for the South African nation and the world of arts and culture. Chiume's matchless talents and dedication to her craft have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many," said the department on Tuesday.

She received multiple achievement awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Royalty Soapie Awards. Chiume was presented with the Hennessy V.S.

O.P Privilège Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual GQ Men of the Year awards. The Black Panther star was also honoured at the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards (HAPA) and the 16th South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas).
