FNPF angle The person chosen by FNPF to reduce our pensions based on actuarial assessment seems wary in responding to Messrs Narsey and Mar. I will let them deal with his arguments. But in this letter I try to read between the lines.

He spent a lot of time trying to convince us about how he is such an expert, did so many courses/seminars, rubbed shoulders with so many experts and member of so many organisations, etc. To me it sounded as if he is desperately trying to convince us that he is the expert in using the actuarial mathematical formula with scant concern for unlawfully affecting the pensioners. Norman Yee, Martintar, Nadi Minimum wage It has been a month since the 50 cents an hour increase in minimum wage rate came about.

It appears this increase has gone halfway in fixing the cost-of-living issues! People are very happy that they got 50 cents while their leaders got a massive pay rise on the same day, in full. There have been no complaints. I believe that in a now free Fiji, this wage increase has resulted in stopping Fijians marching on the streets as this government is doing such a great job.

The people of Fiji are truly blessed. Jan Nissar, Sydney, Australia Scam alert In this technological age, scamming has become a major part of evolution. Though it’s sad to see that many have fallen prey to these scammers, victims still do not learn.

When will we be reminded that whenever it comes to online romance, we need to be vigilant and use our brains more than our emotions. We do not need to waste a lot of money to find and fall in love . Mesake Sivoinavatu, Saru Back Rd, Lautoka Is it right? Mr chairman and boys, ‘Do you have the right to take someone else’s life’? Interesting indeed.

May be a penalty for very a high profile crime that warrants a death penalty. Just saying! But you do not have the right to takeaway a person’s life. Jioji O.

Toronibau, Labasa Perseverance in adversity! The 2024 Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Vodafone Super Deans competition concluded on a high note, thanks to the organisers, officials and participating schools. There were few controversies as well that made social and print media headlines. All those are water under the bridge as the FSSRU executives look forward to the 2025 season.

The Fiji U18 schoolboys are also preparing for the tour, and I hope their performance will reflect the standards that were seen at the HFC Bank Stadium. While there was a lot of focus on the U-18 final between champion QVS and Nasinu, Lami High School had its fair share of moments that went into the golden history of the institution. I salute Talei Matairakula for sharing the experiences of Lami in this year’s U19 competition via her apt article titled ‘Perseverance in the face of adversity – Lami guided by light’ (FT 30/08).

Thank you Talei and The Fiji Times for giving space to Lami High, for when it comes to the Deans, it has always been the bigger schools — QVS, RKS, Grammar, Marist, Cuvu and MGM that dominate the sports pages. I can understand what the win means to the Lami High School family, its leader Naisa Cama, the staff and students and those who have Lami at heart! Indeed, the silent movers surprised many by defeating RKS 11-5 in the quarters, Ratu Navula 13-10 in the semis and QVS 20-19 in the final. Their fairytale run will be remembered in the annals of the beautiful sport, as the milestone was celebrated with tears of joy and emotions.

I agree with head coach Beniamoni Kaikaivalu that the team’s run in the Deans will change perspectives in Lami. It united a town, bringing people together. Toso Lami! Rajnesh Ishwar Lingam, Nadawa, Nasinu.
