The Orlando Sentinel’s endorsement of Amy Pennock in the Seminole County Supervisor of Elections race (Oct. 19) has me puzzled. It claims that both candidates are well qualified but chose, “for reasons that are not entirely fair.
..”, Deborah Poulalion’s opponent because she would have a “better relationship with the Seminole County Commission.
” In other words, the Sentinel thinks we should maintain the status quo, i.e. the “good old boys network,” instead of bringing in new ideas and relationships.
I believe Poulalion is quite capable of working with the Commission as well as running an efficient elections office. List of Orlando Sentinel’s endorsements, recommendations for 2024 general election Poulalion has all the right qualifications for this position. She has decades of experience working for voters’ rights and has an excellent track record in this regard.
Her ability to work with a large variety of groups with widely different views and goals, with minimum resources, is just the background the Supervisor of Elections office needs in order to get refocused and back on track. In addition, she will expand early voting and make technological improvements to enhance the accuracy of the ballot count. Contrary to Pennock, and in line with our surrounding counties, Poulalion supports prestamped mail-in ballots making it easier for voters to participate.
Because of her long dedication of service to the voters of Seminole County, I urge you to vote for Deborah.
