Re “ Kamala Harris ” (Your Views, Aug. 9): A reader suggests video of Vice President Kamala Harris saying the U.S.

has “an alliance with the Republic of North Korea” was being suppressed by the press to give her a pass. It’s not. I easily found it with Google.

It’s also obvious, she misspoke. I wonder if the reader was as critical of former President Donald Trump when he’s misspoken. Trump claimed that the Continental Army, during the Revolutionary War, “took over the airports” 128 years before the Wright brothers flew the first airplane.

Did he actually believe we had airports in 1775? No. He misspoke. Trump said Nikki Haley, his recent GOP primary opponent, was responsible for Capitol security on Jan.

6, apparently confusing her for Rep. Nancy Pelosi. Trump has accused Pelosi of turning down troops, a claim that is false.

He called Hungary’s prime minister, Viktor Orban, “the leader of Turkey.” Recently, during the current campaign for president against then-opponent President Joe Biden, he’s continually referred to Biden as (Barack) “Obama.” He confused Argentina for a person saying, “You know, Argentina, great guy.

He’s a big Trump guy. He loves Trump.” Trump warned that Biden could, plunge the world into World War II, a war we won 79 years ago.

While Harris’ North Korea mistake was unfortunate, it was not an indication that she believes North Korea is our ally. Dave Brechtel, Virginia Beach Re “ Kamala Harris ” (Your Views, Aug. 9): A reader appears to be foaming at the mouth over a video clip that purports to show Vice President Kamala Harris stating that the United States has an alliance with North Korea.

I haven’t watched it, but I suspect that it’s likely that she meant South Korea. In any event, there is no reason to believe that, if elected, she will develop a schoolgirl crush on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Unlike former President Donald Trump who, while in office, famously fawned over Kim and exchanged almost 30 “love letters,” as Foreign Policy Magazine characterized them.

In the fall of 2018, according to NPR, Trump said: “And then we fell in love. OK? No, really. He wrote me beautiful letters.

And they’re great letters. We fell in love.” If the letter writer seeks more recent video evidence of behavior ill-fitting a presidential candidate, he might look at clips from the press conference Trump held Aug.

8, during which Trump claimed that the crowd size at the Jan. 6, 2021, rally rivaled the crowds at the 1963 rally at which Martin Luther King Jr. said he had a dream.

They didn’t; Trump’s was roughly one-fifth the size. The video evidence is there. It’s unmistakable.

Rather than ask why the media are “propping up” Harris, perhaps he, and we, should ask why they are propping up Trump. The Rev. Beth M.

Can it find new shores? ” (June 18): As a transplant to Virginia from Pennsylvania more than 20 years ago, I have followed the conservation efforts on this great ship for many years. Huntington Ingalls Industries could address the issue out of respect for the men and women who created one of the greatest American ocean liners at one of the nation’s greatest shipyards.

I am 77 years old and have purchased many vehicles. Someone from Hall has called me twice to make sure I was happy with my vehicle. This lady even gave me her personal phone number as a follow up if I should have any problems or questions.

Thank you. Dick Mitchell, Windsor Those who are so hyped about the former president getting back in the White House need to think about how he put many out of work when he froze the government employees’ pay for 35 days when he did not get his way about the border. The government was shutdown from Dec.

22, 2018, to Jan 25, 2019, at a crucial time when people needed to be paid to support their families during Christmas and to pay their bills. He does not care about the common man because it’s all about him. If he is elected, he’ll do it again and more and still get paid.

He works on people’s mentality whom he thinks can’t think for themselves. Wake up America. Shirley Cabarras, Virginia Beach Re “ Recommendations ” (Your Views, Aug.

8). The letter writer states, “Neither Trump or (sic) the Republican Party had any part in the formation and publication of Project 2025.” The Washington Post article, “Trump took a private flight with Project 2025 leader in 2022,” tells differently: “But in April 2022, Trump shared a 45-minute private flight with Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts .

.. .

They flew together to a Heritage conference where Trump delivered a keynote address that gestured to Heritage’s forthcoming policy proposals.” “‘They’re going to lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do,’ Trump said in the speech.” Peter Cimmino, Virginia Beach Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Click to share on X (Opens in new window) Most Popular 2 men, 1 woman injured in Hampton shooting near Coliseum Central area 2 men, 1 woman injured in Hampton shooting near Coliseum Central area Column: Repurposing airport offers exciting opportunity for Hampton Roads Column: Repurposing airport offers exciting opportunity for Hampton Roads Hackers may have stolen the Social Security numbers of every American.
