Bosses at a York-based skincare company have taken inspiration from the sense of belonging they feel in the city to officially launch their brand. Dusk and Dawn, a skincare brand run by Jen Campbell and Robert Steven, was founded in July 2024 and launched in York on December 12 with a celebration of all things local. The idea for the brand came about through Jen’s own struggle with finding skincare products that were less complicated than the many different usual high street offerings - without compromising on quality, values, or luxury.
Their ‘streamlined’ approach to skincare offers only six products – ‘four for the evening, two for the morning’ – all of which are cruelty free, vegan, and produced locally. The decision to not only set up the brand in York but make their products within the city came from the pair’s dedication to the city – with Robert being a local and Jen relocating for university and never leaving. Jen explained: "Although I’m originally from Northumberland, I was determined to make York my home.
It’s where I bought my first house, got engaged to my now husband, and built a life surrounded by amazing people. "From my circle of friends, to locals at my village pub, and even the friendly faces I meet while walking my dog in the countryside just outside the city walls, York has given me a sense of belonging." All testing for the products was done in a laboratory close to York, labels and product boxes were created by a York based compan.
