Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Titanic continues to capture hearts decades after its release, thanks to James Cameron’s brilliant direction. During a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Winslet took a trip down memory lane, sharing a hilarious behind-the-scenes story from one of the film’s most iconic scenes — the ship tilting dramatically before sinking. Clarkson prompted Winslet by showing her the intense scene where the ship is perilously angled upwards.
Winslet recalled, “I remember everything. We had a section of the boat that was on a hydraulic arm. It would go up and down depending on what angle at which the ship was sinking at that point in the story.
That particular angle that you saw in the photograph was, it was really scary because, like a fairground ride, it didn’t stop there, it kept going up." She shared that while shooting for the scene, the hydraulic system malfunctioned, leaving her and DiCaprio stuck at the top of the ship. “There was one night when the entire hydraulic, it just broke.
And we got stuck up there. That was quite funny actually. We got stuck up there just like all the night.
We had 7 months of shoot, 4 months of which were shot in the night because the ship sank in the night. So, there’s Leo and I just stuck on the top of the bough of the ship." Winslet further shared that to pass their time, she and DiCaprio would entertain themselves by singing “cheesy love songs" to each other.
