An initiative to collect unwanted hospital equipment has been hailed as a success. The Leigh Rotary Club collected items such as walking sticks, crutches, bed trays, trolleys, washing and toilet aids from the public at Leigh Tesco last weekend. These items, which filled five vans, were collected for refurbishment by Wigan Council, saving the NHS around £1,500.
Rotary Club president Peter Thompson said: "This was a wonderful community project, saving money for the local hospital trust. "Many people said how pleased they were to not only get rid of their unwanted items but also to know they would be refurbished and put to good use. "We would like to thank the general public and Leigh Tesco for their support.
" The initiative was aimed at helping people dispose of hospital equipment they no longer needed. The collected items will now be put to good use..
