Mizzou soccer bested Oklahoma 3-1 in a tightly contested match Friday at Walton Soccer Stadium. Coming into the game just one point shy of a Southeastern Conference playoff spot, the Tigers desperately needed a win. “We’ve set a lot of goals for ourselves, and our main one right now is to make the SEC tournament,” senior forward Leah Selm said.

“Keeping that goal at the front of our minds for every practice and every game has been important for us.” Mizzou has made a habit of scoring early, with goals in the first 10 minutes in each of its past two home games. On Friday, the Tigers scored just 37 seconds into the match thanks to a left-footed shot from senior forward Leah Selm, the first of her two goals in the match.



It was the third-fastest goal in Mizzou soccer history. The fastest score came in a 2-0 win over Vanderbilt in 2014, when Reagan Russell scored 24 seconds into the match. “I think it was my first touch on the ball,” Selm said.

“I saw that I was wide open, and (Brianna Buels) played me a great ball through, so I was able to cut and place the ball into the back corner.” Selm has played a vital role in keeping the Tigers' playoff hopes alive this season with four goals and five assists on the year. “It was exciting to put on a great performance,” Selm said.
